Katherine Knauer explains: "After 'Superstorm Sandy' slammed the northeast, city engineers revised the official flood zone map of New York City, changing my address from a non-flood zone designation to being in Zone 6. The location of my apartment is marked with a cross-stitched red X.
"Radio and TV news coverage of the storm reminded us all to keep a 'Go Bag' handy – an emergency kit you can grab as you run out the door during a hasty evacuation. Following the guidelines for what to pack provided by the Department of Homeland Security, I used stencils, silkscreen and Spoonflower to print images of items you might include in a go-bag, such as a first-aid kit, a flashlight, prescription medications, cash, water, energy bars, a cell phone with a solar charger, a hand-crank radio, toothbrush, house keys and a Swiss Army knife."
