ROBERT SHAW and JULIE SILBER, two of the world's most respected quilt experts, authors, and curators, are offering an exciting new group of special exhibitions and programs to museums and expositions.
Shaw, the former curator of the Shelburne Museum, is the author of such critically acclaimed books as American Quilts: The Democratic Art, The Art Quilt, and Quilts: A Living Tradition, while Silber, the curator of the legendary Esprit Quilt Collection, is the co-author of Amish: The Art of the Quilt and Hearts and Hands: The Influence of Women & Quilts on American Society.
Working separately and together, the two have curated exhibitions at museums and expositions in America, Europe, and Japan, including the National Gallery of Art, the Oakland Museum, the de Young Museum of Fine Arts, the University of Michigan Art Museum, the New England Quilt Museum, the San Jose Museum of Quilts & Textiles, International Quilt Festival, and the Tokyo International Great Quilt Festival.
Shaw and Silber are offering a wide variety of exhibitions of antique and contemporary quilts, including AMERICAN QUILTS: The Democratic Art, 1780-2007, based on Shaw's book of that title, which will open at the Whatcom Museum at the University of Washington, Bellingham in August 2012. Other exhibitions offered by the two master curators include: OFF THE WALL: Maverick Quilts, SEWING CHANGE: Masters of Modern Quiltmaking, TRUE BLUE: Antique Indigo Quilts from the Merry and Al Silber Collection, MARK MY WORDS: Textiles and Text, and INSIDE OUT: The Quilted Art of Susan Shie.
The exhibitions, which range in size from 20-50 quilts and can be modified to fit special needs and spaces, are available for booking now. Complementary programming, including lectures, quilt identification sessions, and other interactive workshops, is also available for each exhibition.
