The diary writing was done between November 28 and December 16, 2006.

Susan Shie explains, “I’ve been wanting to make a painting about my sister Debi and me for a long time, and when we found out that we were both on diets that started about the same time, it seemed to signal the time to make this piece. Debi is eight-and-a-half years younger than me, and it’s really been since our dad died that we’ve been doing more and more stuff together. We’re as close now as we’ve ever been, I think.”
