Pauline Burbidge says that Applecross Quilt was inspired by the wild and rugged landscape around Applecross,an isolated and largely uninhabited peninsula on the northwest coast of Scotland. The quilt was originally commissioned by the Sheffield Museum Galleries Trust for the exhibition"On the Map" in 2007. It was included in the Victoria & Albert Museum's exhibition,"Quilts 1700 – 2010," along with masterpieces from the museum's own extraordinary collection of historic English quilts.
